-What is cosplay?
Cosplay is the art of creating a costume, or prop, or both and roleplaying them in a photoshoot or convention. Cosplay stands for "Costume-Play" or "Costume-Roleplay" which basically speaks the definition for itself!
-How long has Erodoriel been cosplaying for?
I have been cosplaying for two years. I've been making costumes simply to put on display or have for several years, even before I knew cosplay was a word! It was only until 2013 that I discovered what a cosplay convention was.
-What does Erodoriel mean?
Erodoriel was a name chosen in the random name selector in World of Warcraft when I first played for real, in Wrath of the Lich King. Which was many years ago... The name has stuck with me since then, and it is like my second name! I use it for a lot of things, and the day I created my cosplay name, I knew it was perfect to take that little part of gaming history with me in my cosplay jounrey.
-What made you want to cosplay first?
I had been making costumes for years, and admired them for even longer. I remember making my first costume, which was the Tyrande armour from World of Warcraft. It was made out of a cardboard box, pva glue and wire. Eventually, I ended up throwing it away though(I wish I had kept it..). Not long after, at my first job, I had bought a Chell Jumpsuit, just for fun, to have lying around in my bedroom. When it arrived, my brother asked "Oh, are you going to cosplay that to supanova?", and I had no idea what he was talking about. That's right, I didn't even know what cosplay was, let alone a giant room full of it at a convention! After that, I bought the Aperture shirt to go with it, and made myself some portal boots and a portal gun out of styrene, battery operated fairy light and some stuff I had lying around, needless to say, it wasn't something that would make your jaw drop, but I was so proud, and even though I knew it wasn't like the factory made ones, I didn't give up, and that's what has brought me to where I am now!
-What materials are used in your work?
I use a variety of different materials, from pepakura, to EVA foam, to Worbla, styrene, cardboard, cellophane. #1 rule of cosplay: nothing is ever used for it's actual purpose!
